Anne L. Wennerstrand is a psychotherapist in private practice providing general psychotherapy to adults, adolescents, families and couples.  She is specialized in the treatment of eating disorders and body image disorders of all kinds.

Ms. Wennerstrand maintains private practices in New York City and Katonah, NY.   Her work focuses on emotional issues affecting women and families throughout life.   Additionally, she is skilled in treating anxiety disorders, depression, marital and parenting issues.   Ms. Wennerstrand treats dancers, actors and other performing artists struggling with career issues, emotional problems and substance abuse.
 
She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Dance/Movement Therapist, holding Masters’ Degrees in both disciplines.  Ms. Wennerstrand graduated from Hunter College School of Social Work in 1997.  She received the Jacob Goldfein Award.  Prior to pursuing her education in social work, Ms. Wennerstrand had a career as a professional modern dancer and received a BFA from SUNY College at Purchase.  
Ms. Wennerstrand has worked with the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health, Career Transition for Dancers/NYC, Trauma Consultants, and The Renfrew Center of Southern Connecticut.   
She received certification in the treatment of eating and body image problems from the Women’s Therapy Center Institute in NYC.  Currently, she is on the faculty of the Women’s Therapy Center Institute (WTCI ).   Previously she taught at Hunter College School of Social Work and New York University.  Her published writing appears in Dance Magazine, The Dance Insider, The Encyclopedia of Mind-Body Disciplines, Play in Context: Perspectives and Meaning, Eating Disorders: Journal of Treatment and Prevention,   The American Journal of Dance Therapy,  and the Journal of Psychoanalysis, Culture & Society (in press). 
She is a member of   The Women’s Therapy Centre Association, Women’s Mental Health Consortium and the International Association of Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.  Ms. Wennerstrand has presented widely on eating disorders, dance/movement therapy and issues related to women and girl’s mental health.
 
 
Ms. Wennerstrand combines contemporary, relational psychoanalytic theory with cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness approaches.  She brings her considerable expertise in movement, meditation and non-verbal methods to all her clinical work.  Ms. Wennerstrand believes it is important to consider the person in his or her environment and the cultural factors impacting the formation of symptoms.
